Empr. au lat. organum « outil, instrument » par l'intermédiaire du prov. mod. (côte méditerranéenne; cf. arganeau, organeau) attesté au même sens par MISTRAL t. 1 1879, sous la forme arganoun; pour les sens de organum et a- initial, cf. arganeau.
